DC voltage is used to reduce the energy lost in long distance single-phase cables. Rectifying, smoothing and increasing the voltage can deliver the same amount of power at a fraction of the current.

A single-phase cable can transfer up to four times the amount of power when DC is used.
At the end of a cable, DC must be converted into three-phase power. Use a variable frequency drive (VFD).

Most VFDs are equipped with a DC bus terminal. DC alone can power these VFDs.
Characteristics and output specifications of a VFD remains unchanged when powered by DC.

DriveBoosters™ are efficient wall-mountable DC power supplies for VFDs.
The supply voltage is either single- or three-phase.
DC is smoothed and, in some versions, increased.

  1. 1.Install a low-cost cable in new installations.

  2. 2.Increase the power capacity on an existing cable.

240V single-phase to a 415V or 480V VFD:


Convert single to three-phase.

Run a 415V 50Hz or a 480V 60Hz motor on single phase.

Save on cable costs: The current in a cable is 35% of single-phase current.
